our wonderful tourist site.Talking about one of the most important castles in
Ghana, we talk about one of the famous castle located in the cenral part of
Ghana, the Elmina castle .
The Elmina castle was built by the portugese in 1482 as Sao Jorge da
Mina(St George of the Mine castle) also known as Feitora da Mina) in present
day Elmina, Ghana.It was the first trading post built on the Gulf of guinea, so
it is the oldest European building in existence below the sahara.Fist
established as a trade settlement, the castlelater became one of the most
important stops on the route of the atlantic slave trade where the Dutch seized
the fort from the portugese in 1642 and the slave continuedfron thee Dutch
untill 1814.

slaves.Sao Jorge da Mina played a major and significant part in the slave trade
